ANDERSON SILVA AND KELVIN GASTELUM SET FOR UFC SHANGHAI

Anderson Silva is set to battle Kelvin Gastelumat the UFC upcoming event in China. The fight will be the headline for the November 25 event in Shanghai.

It would also serve as a promotional event as UFC makes its first move to the city.

For Gastelum, it is an excellent opportunity to showcase his depth after the July loss to Chris Weidman. It would be a tough clash against the former UFC middleweight champ who returned to winning ways with the decision victory against Derek Brunson.

The main event at the Mercedes Benz Arena is the only one announced so far for the UFC Fight Night 122 card. The fight should have happened before now but it would be official this fall.

They were slated to fight on UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro but Gastelum failed a drug test. From his then last fight against Vitor Belfort, he tested positive for marijuana metabolites. As there were no suitable replacements, the card was thrown off.

Gastelum later asked for the fight at UFC on FOX 25 in Long Island but he eventually got to face ex champ Weidman. There he suffered a third round submission – his first loss since his split decision loss to Neil Magny two year back.

Silva’s record of 34-8 MMA, 17-4 UFC remains revered. He would take on the lesser experienced Gastelum with record of 14-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC. Silva remains one of the best fighters the cage has seen. He is the favourite to win this, especially when many remember his prolific 17 fight winning streak. With him ending his four fight losing run including title-fight loss to Weidman, he is set to turn things around following the Brunson win.
